ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa gave the closing remarks at the recently held three-day NEC meeting, in which he confirmed that the suspension of Ace Magashule still stands.
President of the African National Congress (ANC), Cyril Ramaphosa took to Twitter on Monday, 10 May 2021, to circulate his closing remarks from the ruling party’s three-day National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The meeting commenced on Saturday, 8 May 2021, and concluded on Monday, 10 May 2021.
One of the matters that was of public interest was the controversial step-aside resolution. The resolution resulted in the suspension of the party’s Secretary-General, Ace Magashule. Magashule appealed the suspension and the matter was meant to be further discussed at the NEC meeting. Seemingly, the verdict was not in Magashule’s favour.
However, the statement only affirmed that his suspension is still in place. Moreover, the statement then announced the long-awaited suspension of Bongani Bongo. Bongo’s suspension has been called for by the Democratic Alliance (DA) since as early as last year, in light of claims of corruption and money laundering that were levelled against him.
