On Sunday, 26 September 2021, the African National Congress (ANC) issued a statement by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the preview with candidates, on the eve of the ANC manifesto launch for the upcoming local government elections for 2021. President Ramaphosa stated that the 4 937 PR candidates and the 4 468 ward candidates have gone through a rigorous and robust democratic process to select the most capable and committed representatives to work with the people of the country in building better communities.

He also made mention of the fact that the ANC wants candidates who enjoy the confidence of the people they are expected to serve, and who are rooted in communities with a strong record of service.
