On Thursday, 8 March, Qatar Airways, the national carrier of the State of Qatar announced a five-year partnership agreement with FC Bayern Munich AG, a leading German football team.
According to the new agreement, which was officially announced at a press conference at ITB (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin, the world’s largest tourism trade fair) in Germany, the airline will be an FC Bayern platinum partner from 1 July 2018 until 30 June 2023. As part of the deal, airline’s logo will adorn the shirt sleeves of the German football team.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker said the airline is “delighted to be supporting Germany’s most-winning team,” adding that the carrier “looks forward to working with, and engaging with, the club, the fans, and the people of Germany to help make a real difference through this exciting new partnership. Sport is a key pillar of the long-term vision of the State of Qatar, and as Qatar’s national carrier, we welcome the opportunity to use sport as a means of bringing people together.”
The current partnership between FC Bayern Munich and Lufthansa Group expires on 30 June 2018. In a statement issued on 20 February, FC Bayern Munich marketing director Andreas Jung thanked Lufthansa “for the good, professional and always trustful cooperation.
