PSL results and log: Orlando Pirates claims top spot

Published on

Absa Premiership results and log standings after round eight fixtures.

Seven Absa Premiership games were played over the weekend of 21 to 23 September 2018. All eyes were on the log leaders Bidvest Wits, who kicked off the weekend on Friday against Polokwane City in Johannesburg.

It was expected the league’s high-scorers were going to brush Polokwane aside and extend its lead on the top, however, Polokwane pulled an upset by beating Gavin Hunt’s men 1-0, courtesy of a spectacular Jabulani Maluleke free kick late in the second half.

Orlando Pirates took advantage of Wits’ slip by beating Baroka FC 2-1 on Saturday, 22 September, to take top spot.

Kaizer Chiefs kept the pressure on the leaders by completed a solid 2-0 victory over AmaZulu in Johannesburg on Saturday evening, 22 September 2018.

Bloemfontein Celtic dropped points and its league position when it lost 1-0 to struggling Maritzburg United in the Free State on Sunday, 23 September, lifting the KwaZulu-Natal side out of the bottom spot to thirteenth.
