The President’s Desk has released a statement in light of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Mantfombi Zulu, the Regent of the Zulu Nation.
The President’s Desk took to Twitter on Friday, 30 April 2021, to circulate a statement on the unexpected passing of Her Majesty Queen Shiyiwe Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu, Regent of the Zulu Nation. Her passing came as a surprise to many, as it has been just over a month since the passing of King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu in March 2021.
In statements that have since been released, the cause of her passing were not detailed. The lack of detail has opened room for speculation.
President Cyril Ramaphosa was quoted as saying, “Personally and on behalf of government and all South Africans, I offer my sincerest condolences to the Royal Family and the Zulu nation.” He added, “We extend our thoughts, prayers and hearts once more to the Royal Family who, in the midst of mourning the passing of the beloved King, are now called upon to bid farewell to the Regent in sadly short succession.”
