Powell implicates Zizi Kodwa and Geoff Makhubo during testimony

Steven David Powell was the latest to take the stand at the State Capture Commission, where he implicated ANC members, Zizi Kodwa and Geoff Makhubo, in questionable dealings.

The State Capture Commission took to Twitter on Wednesday, 25 November 2020, to share the testimony given by Steven David Powell on the now embattled EOH. It is alleged that at some point, the company needed to bribe its way into receiving tenders from the ruling party.

During his testimony, Powell implicated two prominent members of the African National Congress (ANC), who allegedly received payments from the company. It is believed that the financial exchange resulted in the company being rewarded some tenders.

First was State Security Deputy Minister, Zizi Kodwa, who allegedly received payments from EOH. There were reportedly “suspicious payments from [an] FNB account number belonging to Mr Jehan Mackay, the former Head of the EOH Public Sector team.” This is not the first time that Kodwa has been implicated in alleged corrupt dealings before the commission.

Secondly, the Mayor of Johannesburg, Geoff Makhubo also allegedly received payments believed to be bribes. Some of the payments were allegedly made to a company that Makhubo owned, and supposedly resigned from in 2011, despite reports claiming it was in 2019. Other donations were allegedly made to the ANC when Makhubo was a Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) in Johannesburg.
