Jozef Vukusic will be hoping he can get one over the defending league champions at the Peter Mokaba Stadium tonight.
Mamelodi Sundowns played out a 1-1 draw against Chiefs in the curtain raiser for the 2018/19 ABSA Premiership season. Pitso Mosimane will be looking for his club’s first win of the season against a Polokwane City team that beat Sundowns twice last season.
Black Leopards stunned Polokwane City on the weekend. Coach Vukusic was left bemoaning his side’s inability to finish, having created several opportunities throughout the match.
However, Polokwane always seem to find their form and their shooting boots against Sundowns, scoring five goals in two league games against Masandawana last season.
Sundowns will be weary of the threat Polokwane City pose as Rodney Ramagalela and Jabulani Maluleka were the most potent pairing in the Premiership last season. Ramagalela was joint top goal scorer while Maluleka had the most assists.
Masandawana are dealing with a bit of an injury crisis right now, with seven first team players out due to long-term injuries.
Polokwane City’s strength is on the counter attack; the speed of their attacking players and the passing ability of Maluleka is what helped them defeat Downs last season.
If last season is anything to go by, fans are in for a thriller at Peter Mokaba Stadium tonight.
