Pierre Goudiaby Atepa resigns from BRVM

Senegalese architect, Pierre Goudiaby Atepa, resigned, Tuesday 18 December 2018, “from his functions as president and his mandate as director” respectively at the Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM) and the Central Depository/Regulatory Bank(DC/BR) to focus on his presidential ambitions, BRVM said in a press release.

“The President justified his decision by his political commitment in Senegal and the ambitions that led him to stand as a candidate in the presidential elections in February 2019,” the sub-regional stock exchange said after Tuesday’s board of directors meeting held in Benin.

Ivorian, Dr Parfait Kouadio Kouassi,  was appointed “chairman of the boards of directors of BRVM and the DC/BR, following Atepa’s resignation. Atepa had chaired these two institutions for nearly four years, according to the release.

Renowned Senegalese architectural engineer Atepa is leader of the ”Senegal Rék” movement, and was sworn in on Sunday, 9 November 2018, by this political group to run for President of Senegal, the first round election of which was scheduled for 24 February 2019.

“I am a candidate to continue the fight I have always fought, that of the development of my country, of our country,” he said during his investiture.

Atepa also announced at the investiture ceremony that his movement had finished collecting more than 120,000 sponsorship signatures, almost doubling the number required under Senegal’s election law to validate his candidacy.
