PAC weighs in on Vicki Momberg sentencing, says it is bittersweet

Vicki Momberg has been sentenced to three years imprisonment, with one year suspended by the Randburg Magistrates Court, drawing a mixed response from the PAC.

Vicki Momberg, 49, was found guilty of four counts of crimen injuria in November last year, after she was recorded shouting racial slurs at a black police officer who was trying to assist her after she was involved in an alleged smash-and-grab incident.

One political party, the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) says it has noted Momberg’s sentencing but has a “bittersweet feeling” on the matter “as it does not address the gist problem we have in the country.”

The PAC says it has “always contended that we have only a human race, hence we advocate for non-racism and we have convinced those who used to say multi-racialism to adopt a universal concept of non-racism, as coined by Robert Sobukwe and later adopted globally.”

“The only solution to address what is wrongfully identified as racism is to return the land to the rightful owners, which are African people, who have been dispossessed of their land, dignity and independence from 1652 to date,” the party added.

Vicki Momberg has also been denied bail.
