A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death in Tambacounda during clashes between supporters of incumbent Macky Sall and those of poll challenger, Professor Elhadj Issa Sall on Monday, 11 February 2019.
The violence took place amid a general elections campaign where both candidates were crisscrossing the country to woo voters.
According to the privately-owned Future Radio Media (RFM), the victim is an active supporter of “Benno Bokk Yaakaar” (United in Hope), the coalition that sponsors the candidacy of the incumbent president.
The victim was stabbed by a member of the opposition party, Unity and Gathering (PUR), local media reported.
The tragedy is said to have occurred in a pitched battle over a “trivial story of poster of the candidate Macky Sall”, RFM reports, recalling that this death brings to nine the number of people already dead since the beginning of the electoral campaign on Sunday, 3 February 2019.
