NUMSA has announced that it has reached common ground with the Gautrain’s Bombela Operating Company, marking an end of the week-long strike action.
The National Union of Metalworkers in South Africa (NUMSA) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 14 October 2020, to issue a statement confirming that it has reached a resolution with the Gautrain. The union had embarked on a week-long strike against the Gautrain, following a wage disagreement with its Bombela Operating Company. The two parties finding a resolution has resulted in the end of the strike action, implying that the Gautrain will resume with normal operations on Thursday, 15 October 2020.
NUMSA initially request an eight percent increase for its members, while the Bombela Operating Company allegedly tried to get them to agree to a four percent increase.
According to the statement, the lowest paid members will receive a R900 increase, while those earning between R8 501 and R20 000 will receive R850 more per month.
