NUM has asserted that it will be putting its members first as it enters the first day of wage negotiations with power utility, Eskom.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 5 May 2021, to share a post on its objective as it enters into wage negotiations with power utility, Eskom. Ahead of the first day of the negotiations, the trade union suggested that there is a bias in the wages between the races.
In a post shared on Tuesday, 4 May 2021, the union stated, “It is quite disgusting that we have a black government which is a shareholder at Eskom, but African workers at Eskom earn less than white workers for the same job! What is the role of this black government? How can they be so weak?”
Despite the heated post, it is believed that the first day of negotiations was peaceful. Visuals that were shared revealed that the two parties started the negotiations in song.
