Niehaus says Zuma campaign condemns intimidation by law enforcement
MK veteran, Carl Niehaus, on behalf of the Free Jacob Zuma campaign, condemned the use of law enforcement agencies to intimidate and target its supporters.
uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) veteran, Carl Niehaus issued a statement on Tuesday, 10 August 2021, stating that the Free Jacob Zuma campaign condemns the use of law enforcement agencies to target and intimidate supporters of former president Jacob Zuma, calling it illegal. Niehaus stated that the campaign is outraged by the increasing number of incidents of targeting and intimidation of Zuma supporters.
Niehaus detailed that in the latest incident, an African National Congress (ANC) member, Sizwe Nyambi, had been arrested for carrying “Wenzeni uZuma” t-shirts at Park Station in Johannesburg, while waiting to board a bus. He further called the treatment of Nyambi outrageous. The MK veteran also stated that the campaign wishes to make it clear that it is not illegal to support the immediate release of Zuma, but it is, however, illegal to abuse state law enforcement agencies in order to undermine and curb their constitutional rights as supporters.
Niehaus stressed that the harassment and intimidation Zuma supporters are being subjected to are unacceptable, and that the campaign will not tolerate it. It vows to oppose it with all the lawful and legal means at its disposal and not be fazed by undemocratic repression.
