Niehaus announces Free Jacob Zuma campaign developments

Published on

MK veteran, Carl Niehaus has issued a statement on the Free Jacob Zuma campaign and plans to mobilise for protest action when Zuma appears in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) veteran, Carl Niehaus issued statement on Wednesday, 4 August 2021, on the intensification of the Free Jacob Zuma campaign and related developments. Niehaus stated that as the campaign, it rejects with contempt the deliberate attempts to link it to the violence and looting that took place over the past few weeks, calling the allegations unfounded.

Niehaus thanked and expressed appreciation to the international media, which, he stated, exposed what took place in the country as nothing more than a historical socio-economic crisis that had been brewing and waiting to explode. He also stated that the Free Jacob Zuma campaign would be embarking on further peaceful and lawful protest action, and that the need for radical economic transformation would be inseparable and fundamental.

Niehaus further confirmed that their immediate response and protest action will be on Tuesday, 10 August 2021, in Pietermaritzburg, as the former president will be appearing again in the city’s High Court for what he has referred to as the “fatally flawed and compromised, so-called arms deal trial.” He also emphasised that the campaign believes that the imprisonment of Zuma was illegal.
