Carl Niehaus and Fikile Mbalula have reignited their social media rivalry, after Mbalula lambasted Niehaus for his public support of RET.
Carl Niehaus took to Twitter on Wednesday, 19 May 2021, to label Fikile Mbalula a revisionist. The tweet was in response to the suggestive threat directed at Niehaus by Mbalula. On Sunday, 16 May 2021, Niehaus affirmed that his loyalty with the African National Congress (ANC) lies with the strife for radical economic transformation (RET).
The post was made ahead of former president, Jacob Zuma’s appearance at the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday, 17 May 2021. It seems that Mbalula understood the post as an act of support for Zuma ahead of his court appearance. Therefore, Mbalula suggested that Niehaus was opposing the stance of the party on the matter, which is to distance itself from the legalities surrounding Zuma.
Mbalula wrote that Niehaus needs to be stopped and disciplined. In his reply to the gaslighting post, Niehaus responded by suggesting that Mbalula was exaggerating, considering that he merely posted about an ANC branch meeting. Moreover, he reminded Mbalula that RET is part of the ANC’s policies.
See the post below.
What is out of order? Tweeting about an @MYANC branch meeting, that expressed support for #RadicalEconomicTransformation, which is the official economic policy programme of the #ANC. Wow, this is revisionism of the worst kind!
