NEHAWU and SARS reach agreement on insourcing cleaning staff
COSATU took to Twitter to confirm that NEHAWU has signed an agreement with SARS on the insourcing of some 769 cleaning staff.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) took to Twitter on Thursday, 29 October 2020, to confirm that the National Education Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) has signed an agreement with the South African Revenue Services (SARS). SARS has committed to insourcing its cleaning staff, per the agreement. According to the post, more than 769 cleaners are set to be insourced.
Although the announcement was made, details of the agreement were not shared in the post. Therefore, matters such as salaries and benefits that the staff will receive are yet to be shared. With insourcing, there is the possibility of wage disputes, which the post also did not touch on. However, the insourcing is a move in the right direction towards addressing the union’s grievances.
