Ndlozi rehashes Gareth van Onselen’s controversial comments
Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter to comment on the passing of Gareth van Onselen’s mother, by referring to comments he made after Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s passing.
The Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter on Saturday, 12 December 2020, to share a post directed at author and editor, Gareth van Onselen regarding the passing of his mother. In his post, Ndlozi questioned how the public is expected to react to the news, subsequently rehashing van Onselen’s comments from when late struggle stalwart, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed.
Ndlozi shared a screenshot of a poll that van Onselen had put out at the time of Madikizela-Mandela’s passing, questioning where her supporters were when she was alive to defend her “fraught past.” Moreover, van Onselen had described her as “brave, violent, selfless, selfish, loyal, criminal, revolutionary, hero, [and] many more besides.”
Ndlozi tweeted, “Today, your mom has passed. I wonder if we too should deny you peace in mourning, or only Winnie’s children don’t deserve peace?” van Onselen has yet to respond to the tweet, which has already prompted mixed reactions.
