Ndlozi reacts to viral video of teacher combing Black learner’s hair

Published on

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is amongst those calling for the dismissal of a teacher that was recorded force-combing the hair of a Black learner before they entered school.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Commissar, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter on Tuesday, 23 March 2021, to share a post affirming the beauty of Black people’s hair. The post comes on the back of a viral video of a Black teacher force-combing the hair of a Black learner before granting him access to the school.

Despite the incident being between two people of colour, it has reignited the conversation on socially acceptable conditions of Black hair. On the one hand, there were those that supported the teacher and suggested that the kind of hairstyle the learner had was not appropriate for school. On the other hand, some called for the teacher’s dismissal based on the belief that the learner had trimmed his hair, with the only point of contention being that he did not comb the top part of his hair.

In his post, Ndlozi supported the sentiments of the latter and made it clear that Black people’s hair should not be forced to be combed. He further expressed that Black people’s hair should be worn as natural as other sleeker and straighter hair is.
