Ndlozi questions opposition to Harvard’s appointment

Published on

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter to question the opposition to the appointment of Xiaomei Harvard to the National Assembly, who has taken over from Jackson Mthembu.

The Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Commissar, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter on Sunday, 31 January 2021, to question the backlash to the appointment of Xiaomei Harvard into the National Assembly. Harvard’s appointment was made official this past week when she was signed in, following the passing of Jackson Mthembu and the vacancy he left in Parliament.

The backlash comes amid the continued calls for the prioritisation of South Africans, as Harvard is Chinese-born. Some are questioning if Xiaomei was the only viable candidate to replace Mthembu, further suggesting that there are better South African-born politicians that could have occupied the position.

Ndlozi has since highlighted the irony of the backlash to Harvard’s appointment. He claimed that there are white Democratic Alliance (DA) parliamentarians with two passports, whose appointments into Parliament have not been questioned. Therefore, he questioned why Harvard’s appointment has been met with so much backlash.
