Ndlozi: No hashtag formed against us shall prosper

Published on

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter to remark on the contentious trending hashtag that was created to lambast the EFF for Julius Malema’s sentiments on foreign nationals and border control.

The Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Commissar, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter on Friday, 15 January 2021, to defend the sentiments uttered by the party’s Commander-In-Chief (CIC), Julius Malema. The contentious statements were made during the first EFF press conference of the year.

Malema instigated backlash from social media users when he spoke on foreign nationals and border control in the country. He first upheld the polarising stance of a “borderless” African state, which suggests that Africans should be permitted to move freely across the continent without the need for passports and visas.

Malema then went on to encourage South Africans to stay indoors amid the COVID-19 second wave. He advised foreign nationals barred entry into the country to find “creative ways” to return to the country. These sentiments gave rise to the trending hashtag, #RIPEFF, with some Twitter users vowing to keep the EFF out of Parliament in the next general elections in 2024.

Ndlozi, in defence of his CIC and the party, stated, “EFF is the future! No hashtag formed against us shall prosper. Many prophets of doom have called for our fall before. But still we rise! We rise because our appointment is with the future, our vindication is always guaranteed. Africa shall be one; only in unity will it prosper!”
