Ndlozi emphatic he and Malema are facing a common assault charge

Published on

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter to reiterate that he and Malema are facing a common assault charge, following various misleading and erroneous reports.

The Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Commissar, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to Twitter on Tuesday, 9 March 2021, to assert that he is facing a common assault charge, not an assault charge. Ndlozi and the EFF’s leader, Julius Malema, are currently appearing at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for the physical altercation between them and an officer outside the resting place of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

Ndlozi has now reiterated the charge that they are facing, following news reports that have been referring to the matter as an assault charge. Moreover, Stephen Grootes erroneously referred to the matter as a murder case.

The two have pled not guilty to the charge. The distinguishing difference between an assault charge and a common assault charge is that the latter suggests that Ndlozi and Malema used force in order to prevent possible unlawful violence by the officer in question.
