Mzwandile Masina suggests recent arrests are racially motivated

Published on

Mzwandile Masina took to Twitter to claim that arrests stemming from the Zondo Commission are only targeted at Black people, suggesting that the arrests are racially motivated.

Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina took to Twitter on Monday, 19 October 2020, to cast doubt over the recent arrests conducted by the Hawks. Most of the arrests followed shortly after testimonies provided before the Zondo State Capture Commission.

The most notable example of such is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Blackhead Consulting, Edwin Sodi, for his involvement in the controversial Free State asbestos housing project. This was followed by two more arrests, including that of the African National Congress’ (ANC) Vincent Smith, who handed himself over for his questionable dealings.

Masina suggested that the arrests are racially motivated by supposing that “some Whites have been stealing with impunity and they [are] not arrested.”  He further called for unity amongst Black people to fight the allegedly biased system.
