Much-loved Tomb Tattoo owner, Nicholas “Mudskipper” passes on

On Friday, 14 June 2024, Tomb Tattoo confirmed that its eccentric and beloved owner, Nicholas “Mudskipper” Keeping died while travelling in the USA.

Tomb Tattoo, Nicholas “Mudskipper” Keeping’s tattoo shop in Gardens, Cape Town confirmed that the talented tattoo artist has died. Keeping passed away while he was travelling in the USA.

While the circumstances that led to Nicholas “Mudskipper” Keeping’s passing are still unclear, a statement by Tomb Tattoo released on Instagram rallied both local and international community mourning his death to contribute to the repatriation of his remains back to South Africa, and to support his surviving wife, Yui.

The statement explained that “in response to this tragic loss, Nick’s community has come together to raise funds to support Yui during this incredibly difficult time. These funds will help cover the costs of bringing Nick back to South Africa, his funeral expenses, to provide financial support for Yui and to keep Tomb Tattoo and Nick’s legacy running. Additionally, we aim to assist with the mortgage payments for Nick and Yui’s home.”

According to public social media posts by Nicholas Mudskipper, he seemed to have started posting about his US adventures on Wednesday, 29 May 2024, showcasing among other things, some of the work he was doing with the Los Angeles-based Tattoo Studio, StrangeLove LA. His last social media post on Monday, 10 June 2024.
