MTN teams up with the funny chef to give users a “digital makeover”

MTN has been showing its consumers how to use the My MTN app to use data bundles effectively.

South African network provider, MTN is teaching its users to improve their online presence and data usage.

In a YouTube advert posted on Monday, 10 December 2018, the alter ego of internet comedian,the Funny Chef, ran out of data before she could defeat her friend in a “meme war” over a WhatsApp chat. The clip supposedly depicts the connectivity problem a lot of South Africans face, who are unable to enjoy what the online world has to offer.

MTN encouraged users to reach out to them about what online activities they struggle with accessing the most. “Tell us what your unconnected moment is and we might just send data prizes your way #wegotu,” the company said. The Funny Chef, whose real name is Lebogang Tlokana, said in the advert that users could nominate their friends who needed a digital makeover.

The service provider was offering social media bundles to use on various platforms. “Need the best data bundles for those meme wars? Well @TheFunnyChef is here to school you on all kinds of social media bundles with an #MTNMakeover,” MTN said in a tweet.

MTN user, Lynn Komotolo, was nominated by her boyfriend for having an underwhelming presence on the Twitter platform. Komotolo only had 72 followers and wasn’t aware of popular hashtags she could use to attract attention to her profile.

The Funny Chef visited her at her home and gave her tips for using the platform. Komotolo also learned about the different data packages available for different time periods and for different platforms such as Twitter. The bundles can be purchased through the My MTN app.
