Voter registration for Mozambique’s 2019 presidential, parliamentary and provincial elections will take place between 1 April 2019 and 15 May 2019, cabinet spokesperson Ana Comoana said on Wednesday, 12 December 2018.
“This registration covers all citizens of voting age (over 18 years old) inside Mozambique except those who registered for this year’s municipal elections,” Comoana told journalists in the capital, Maputo.
Comoana said voter registration for Mozambicans living in the diaspora is expected to take place from 16 April 2019 to 15 May 2019.
There are nine countries where the Mozambican community is deemed large enough to set up polling stations – eSwatini, Germany, Kenya, Malawi, Portugal, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The elections are scheduled for 15 October 2019.
One of the peculiarities of the Mozambican electoral system is that the entire electorate is re-registered every five years. Voter cards that were issued for the 2014 elections are no longer valid.
