The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture has wished Team SA well as they embark on the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games to be hosted in Tokyo, Japan.
The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa has sent a message of good luck to Team SA, who are headed to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The minister issued a statement on Thursday, 15 July 2021, wishing the team well on their participation at the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympics Games.
Mthethwa stated with appreciation that the games will be hosted under difficult circumstances, and also extended the country’s good wishes to the hosts. Mthethwa stated that he is cognizant that there are obligations to accommodate, such as tough host requirements and the challenging and unpredictable pandemic health conditions.
Furthermore, Mthethwa stated that he acknowledges that Caster Semenya of South Africa is unfortunately not able to qualify due to certain circumstances, but still emphasised that the country still has high hopes for the team. The minister also stated that it is of utmost importance that participants be kept safe from contracting COVID-19.
