The DA’s Michael Waters has issued a statement unpacking one of the possible reasons for John Moodey’s recent departure from the party, which corroborated John Steenhuisen’s claims on the matter.
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Michael Waters issued a statement on Facebook about the alleged reason for John Moodey’s recent resignation from the party. The statement, issued on Thursday, 3 September 2020, followed a day after Moodey announced his resignation, ultimately sparking much speculation and conversation on his decision.
Waters’ statement comes after DA leader, John Steenhuisen, claimed that Moodey’s departure was not voluntary. Moodey allegedly resigned out of fear of the ramifications of the findings of an internal investigation on his alleged involvement in an attempt to incriminate Waters in sexual harassment incidents.
In his statement, Waters stated, “[Moodey] has attempted to destroy my political career and personal reputation, not for the first time.” He then detailed the “Sex for Jobs Scandal,” and alleged that Moodey attempted to have two young councillors sign affidavits claiming that Michael Waters promised them higher ranks in exchange for sexual favours.
