Meshoe suggests high crime rate is due to SSA’s negligence

Published on

Kenneth Meshoe has circulated his parliamentary address, suggesting that the high crime is due to SSA’s negligence and supposed focus on the ruling party’s continued infighting.

Leader of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Kenneth Meshoe took to Twitter on Thursday, 11 March 2021, to circulate his parliamentary address on what he believes is the reason for the high crime rate in the country. Meshoe attributed it to the State Security Agency’s (SSA) negligence and continued focus on the ruling party’s infighting.

Meshoe was quoted as saying, “Chairperson, the State Security Agency has allegedly been running a campaign to influence the media. It was called Project Wave and aimed to recruit journalists and media houses to work with them; African News Agency, for example, was paid R20 million in 2017 to train SSA analysts and interns and to broadcast positive stories about the SA Government.

“What is most concerning, however, is that state security officials who stand accused of stealing R17-million from an SSA safe still have their jobs.”

In his conclusion, Meshoe suggested that the SSA should be disbanded. According to him, if it is not disbanded, it “will simply poison the rest of government.”
