Kenneth Meshoe has highlighted the violent result of a lack of basic services at Nancefield Hostel in Soweto, following the sexual assault of a woman amid protest action.
Leader of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Kenneth Meshoe took to Twitter on Monday, 10 May 2021, to comment on a reported sexual assault incident that took place at Nancefield Hostel. This is believed to be Meshoe’s attempt to have the municipality pay more attention to service delivery, particularly electricity supply in the area for the past two weeks. The lack of electricity supply has reportedly resulted in criminal activity at night.
In his initial post, Meshoe stated, “Residents of Nancefield Hostel have been without electricity for two weeks [and] allegedly took matters [into] their own hands. Under cover of darkness, cars were stoned. A woman was dragged from a car she was traveling in [and] gang-raped. Rapists must be arrested, convicted and jailed.”
However, considering the statistics on sexual assault cases in the country, the chances of the matter receiving the necessary attention are slim. Moreover, despite Meshoe’s calls for a probe into the matter of electricity, there has been no confirmation of it being attended to yet.

Those who pulled a woman from a car and brutally gang-raped her during the electricity protest at Nancefield Hostel in Soweto on Saturday night must be hunted down and arrested for their evil deeds. There is NO excuse for rape. @SowetanLIVE
