Starting from Wednesday, 7 February 2018, MediRite pharmacies will be offering free health checks for pensioners.
According to a statement released by the company, “free wellness screenings will be available to senior citizens aged 60 and older on the first Wednesday of every month at the 147 MediRite pharmacies located in Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets across South Africa.”
The check-ups include blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) tests.
Those pensioners willing to use the free service are according to the statement “urged to make an appointment at their local MediRite pharmacy and need to produce their green identity books when doing so.”
MediRite says the initiative is aimed at reducing incidents of heart disease, high blood pressure, and strokes among the elderly in South Africa.
