Public Service and Administration Minister, Senzo Mchunu has called for the Director-General and Head of Department positions to be filled.
On Monday, 19 April 2021, Minister of Public Service and Administration, Senzo Mchunu requested that executive positions at national and provincial levels be filled. In his call, he highlighted the detrimental effect that these vacancies have on business continuity and departmental performance. This comes after the department’s discovery that there were eight Director-General vacancies in the third quarter of the 2020/2021 financial year.
Mchunu stated, “The duration of the vacancies range from as far back as 2017 in respect of a particular Director-General post (Department of Social Development) and 2014 in respect of the Head of Department: Provincial Treasury Northern Cape.”
He further added, “This matter deserves urgent attention… for the country to develop, not only must there be public service and public servants, and any other public space component for that matter, but heads of department must be at the forefront – putting their knowledge and skills into action, in the interests and to the benefit of the country.”
