Mboweni provides update on MTBPS preparations

Tito Mboweni took to Twitter to provide an update on the preparations for the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), following the recent postponement of his scheduled address.

Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni took to Twitter on Tuesday, 20 October 2020, to provide an update on the preparations for the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement. The speech was initially meant to be delivered on Wednesday, 14 October 2020, but the minister requested a postponement, citing “decisions taken by Parliament” as the reason for the delay in his address.

The recent update reiterated that it takes more than just himself to devise the policy and prepare for the address. In explaining the process followed to prepare the statement, Mboweni noted, “This is how it works: Based on the cabinet budget fiscal framework, different teams in the National Treasury write chapters in the big document, [and then] the core team drafts the speech.”

With the team currently working on the revised speech, there has still been no word from Parliament on the new date for its presentation.
