Mboweni discusses economic development with Kganyago and Shivambu
Tito Mboweni, on his last day in Cape Town, opted to have dinner with the current SARB Governor, Lesetja Kganyago, and was later joined by the EFF’s Floyd Shivambu.
Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni took to Twitter on Monday, 2 November 2020, to reveal that after his delivery of the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), he took a vacation in Cape Town. To mark the last day of his stay in the Western Cape, Mboweni had dinner with the current South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Governor, Lesetja Kganyago.
Surprisingly, the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) Deputy President (DP), Floyd Shivambu also joined them. Despite Shivambu having been critical of Mboweni and his policies on social media and in public discourse, it seems he aired his grievances to Mboweni during the dinner as well.
In reacting to the post by Mboweni, Shivambu let his followers in on a portion of their conversation, writing, “My insistence, minister, is that we all should comprehend economic development from the heterodox perspective, excellently argued by Professor Ha Joon Chang.”
