Published on

Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula encouraged the taxi industry to obey the law regarding COVID-19, further calling for unity in fighting the global pandemic.

Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula held a press conference on Monday, 29 June 2020, to address the aviation industry’s reopening and the topical matter of the taxi industry’s opposition of the COVID-19 regulations. Initially, Mbalula was confident when addressing the taxi industry’s defiance, however, today he sang a different tune.

During the press conference, Mbalula reiterated that he is an ally of the industry, and should not be seen as the enemy. He further supported his claims by stating that despite the industry not being formalised, he advocated for it to be considered for the transport relief fund.

Mbalula also clarified that he is required to consult the National Coronavirus Command Council regarding any decisions on the taxi industry’s demands.
