Fikile Mbalula took to Twitter to give the ruling party credit for the establishment of the State Capture Commission, further praising the ANC for its supposed decision to do so.
The African National Congress’ (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Fikile Mbalula took to Twitter on Monday, 30 November 2020, to recount how he believes the State Capture Commission was established. According to Mbalula, the State Capture Commission was established following a decision at an “ANC conference to deal and investigate state capture.”
The proclamation surprised some on social media, considering their recollection of how the State Capture Commission was established. The comments section of Mbalula’s post had some social media users questioning whether the commission was not established per the recommendation of the then Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela.
The tweet comes left field from the Minister of Transport, considering that if the commission was established by the ruling party, it would be better at taking remedial action against implicated officials. To date, some of the implicated ANC officials include Ace Magashule, Dr Zweli Mkhize and Geoff Makhubo, who still continue to hold their respective positions in the party and in office.
