Mbalula continues to defend himself on Twitter

Published on

Minister Fikile Mbalula continued to defend himself against criticism from other political figures and the public at large, following his recent heated exchange with Mmusi Maimane on Twitter.

The African National Congress’ (ANC) Fikile Mbalula took to Twitter on Monday, 8 March 2021, to defend himself against the slew of backlash that he has been receiving of late. Mbalula has been facing backlash from the public and prominent political officials such as fellow ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Carl Niehaus, and Mmusi Maimane.

Mbalula, in a tweet continuing his back-and-forth exchange with Niehaus, suggested that he would never comment on the controversy surrounding the funding of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 2017 elections campaign, as it would suggest that he is hypocritical like those calling for the release of the bank statements, including Niehaus.

Moreover, in the continued mudslinging between himself and Maimane, Mbalula rehashed the speculations on the reasons for why Maimane was allegedly fired from his position as the leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA). Mbalula went further by rehashing the suggestion that Maimane is a White apologist, which supposedly arose from his tenure under the DA’s Helen Zille.
