Fikile Mbalula has publicly expressed his disapproval of Carl Niehaus’ unwavering support for the suspended Ace Magashule on social media.
Carl Niehaus took to Twitter on Sunday, 9 May 2021, to pledge his continued support for the African National Congress’ (ANC) suspended Secretary-General (SG), Ace Magashule. The post came as the ruling party was concluding the second day of its national executive committee (NEC) meeting on Magashule’s appeal against his suspension, as well as the overall step-aside resolution and its efficiency.
The post saw Niehaus sharing an image of himself, Magashule and former president, Jacob Zuma. In the caption, he stated, “No attempted suspension of the Secretary-General of the ANC, comrade Magashule will affect our comradeship and friendship. Everyone must understand very clearly, I am not a Zoom meeting platform!”
Mbalula subsequently claimed that the post was challenging the NEC of the ruling party and that Niehaus should face consequences for supposedly challenging the NEC. In his response to Mbalula, Niehaus stated, “You don’t understand the legal processes. The Secretary-General, comrade Magashule has appealed, and that appeal has been acknowledged by the ANC.”
