Busi Mavuso has expressed her thoughts on the impact of a potential second wave of COVID-19 infections and tighter restrictions, suggesting that the hospitality industry is most vulnerable.

Busi Mavuso penned a thought piece on Thursday, 29 October 2020, detailing the possible impact of a second wave of COVID-19 infections and tighter restrictions, particularly on businesses. Mavuso acknowledged that she might be playing in the field of speculation, but suggested that officials have already started hinting at the possibility more outwardly.

The thought piece also advised the government to learn from the first lockdown, in terms of which sectors to keep open should tighter restrictions be implemented. When the lockdown was introduced, everything was at a standstill, which negatively impacted the economy. To return to such would have more dire consequences and further cripple the economy.

Mavuso then highlighted that the hospitality industry would be most likely be the most hit. She then explained the importance of the sector, as “women and youth make up a huge percentage of its workforce.”
