Massmart confirms major partnerships to aid recovery in KZN

Massmart SA has confirmed a partnership with Walmart, Gift of the Givers and FoodForwards SA, in committing R13 million towards strengthening the food supply chain in KZN, following the recent unrest.

African Retailer, Massmart has announced that together with Walmart and Walmart Foundation, it will be committing to a R13 million in cash and in-kind donations, in an effort to aid recovery in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) after the recent unrest. Massmart confirmed that it will be working together with Gift of the Givers and FoodForward South Africa on Thursday, 22 July 2021, who are both already supporting efforts in impacted communities of KZN.

Massmart stated that this is a commitment towards helping address the current recovery efforts in the wake of the unrest, as well as strengthening the food supply chain for ongoing community support. Massmart confirmed that working with Gift of the Givers and FoodForward, they have begun efforts with an initial consignment of ninety tons of food, including rice, baby formula, peanut butter, coffee, canned fish and maize meal, amongst others.

Massmart Spokesperson, Brian Leroni stated, “We have longstanding partnerships with Gift of the Givers and FoodForward SA and are confident that our combined strength and effort will help kick-start the recovery process in the most vulnerable local communities in KZN.” Massmart also stated that the funds will help strengthen the region’s food bank system.
