Mashaba criticises state of Home Affairs Department

Published on

Herman Mashaba has taken to social media to publicly lambaste the Home Affairs Department and Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, following the Bushiri’s reported escape to Malawi.

Leader of ActionSA, Herman Mashaba took to Twitter on Tuesday, 17 November 2020, to remark on Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi’s stance on the state of the country’s border controls. Motsoaledi has been called to account for the reported and topical escape of self-proclaimed prophet, Shepherd Bushiri, and his wife, Mary Bushiri, to Malawi, with no record of how they managed to flee the country.

Motsoaledi faced backlash from some members of Parliament for having previously admitted that he feared that the Bushiris might flee, however, he evidently did not act on it. Moreover, the minister has faced backlash for the overall state of the department and the alleged ease at acquiring false documentation, such as passports and citizenship papers.

In his post, Mashaba claimed, “We are suffering from your own government’s failure to secure our borders and deal with illegal immigration. Useless!”
