Herman Mashaba took to Twitter to share a thread of his suggested MTBPS, following Minister Tito Mboweni’s address, which was met with mixed reactions by the public.
Leader of Action SA, Herman Mashaba took to Twitter on Wednesday, 28 October 2020, to offer an alternative to the tabled Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS). The MTBPS was delivered by Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni earlier that day, to mixed reactions, particularly over the hike in taxes and continuous bailouts for South African Airways (SAA).
Mashaba proposed a four-pronged strategy, which he first shared as points before elaborating on. Mashaba suggested that the government must cut the costs of the civil service. Secondly, he called for a reduction in the size of the cabinet from 74 to 25. He then boldly advised the government to do away with SAA. He then implored the government to halt all non-essential projects.
Currently, Mashaba is embarking on the Act As One national tour, which is set to discuss the Economic Recovery Plan and Municipal Governance Strategy today, 29 October 2020.
See the post below.
Here's what we should do, Minister @tito_mboweni:
1. CUT the costs of the civil service. We need a streamlined government.
END cadre deployment and focus our limited resources on where public service is actually being delivered!#MTBPS2020
