Mashaba clarifies his views on South Africa’s immigration system
Herman Mashaba penned a statement clarifying his views on the country’s immigration system and regulations, after criticising Aaron Motsoaledi for the current state of his department.
Leader of ActionSA, Herman Mashaba took to Twitter on Sunday, 22 November 2020, to clarify his stance on his previous remarks on the state of South Africa’s immigration system. Mashaba was one of the prominent political figures who heavily criticised Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi for what many described as poor management of his department.
His disapproval of Motsoaledi was purported by the ongoing Shepherd and Mary Bushiri saga, with no plausible explanation of how they managed to flee to their home country of Malawi. However, Mashaba has always held a similar stance on border control, which had previously led to speculation that he was in support of movements like Put South Africans First, a matter he has since refuted and put to rest.
Mashaba stated, “ActionSA believes that we need to fix this by overhauling immigration regulations to streamline the process of legally migrating to SA; capacitate immigration institutions to swiftly deal with the backlog of asylum applications; relax regulations for tourist visas and adopt an online visa-on-arrival system.”

I wanted to set the record straight.
However, I remain unapologetic about my views on the failure of our immigration system in South Africa.
I have seen first-hand how this state failure has impacted local communities.
It has to change!https://t.co/ZxBauqsFw5
