Manyi shocked by alleged incompetence in vaccine rollout plan

Mzwanele Manyi has lambasted the ruling party for its alleged incompetence in the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine, as healthcare workers reportedly have to endure long lines to be vaccinated.

Member of Parliament (MP) for the African Transformation Movement (ATM), Mzwanele Manyi took to Twitter on Thursday, 13 May 2021, to lambaste the ruling party for its alleged incompetence in the vaccination rollout plan. Manyi shared an image of disgruntled frontline healthcare workers, who reportedly had to endure long lines at the vaccination centres.

The MP suggested that the long lines for healthcare workers would not get any better when the Sisonke Vaccination Programme moves to phases two and three. He expressed this by highlighting that there is a finite number of healthcare workers, yet they are still subjected to such conditions. Moreover, considering that people book the appointments in advance, one would have expected long queues to not be an issue.

The National Department of Health is currently warning of a looming third wave. Matters like the logistics and supposed inefficiency of the vaccination rollout programme have not been fully addressed yet. Therefore, for the foreseeable future, the long line are expected to be a recurring issue, particularly as the government plans to facilitate phase two in winter.
