Julius Malema, during his Freedom Day address, threatened radical action if the state does not approve the vaccines from China and Russia.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took to Twitter on Wednesday, 28 April 2021, to share excerpts from its Freedom Day commemoration. The event was held in Atteridgeville, Tshwane on Tuesday, 27 April 2021. The key address was given by the party’s Commander-In-Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, who touched on various topical socio-political matters.
One such matter was that of the types of vaccines that are prohibited in South Africa. Currently, two primary vaccines are being used in the country, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and the Pfizer vaccine. The two vaccines are not produced by any of the BRICS countries, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
This is despite China and Russia having their own vaccines. Russia’s Sputnik vaccine is tapped as one of the best vaccines in the market currently, however, it is still not being used in South Africa. Therefore, Malema stated. “We want to warn Cyril Ramaphosa, we are going to take a very radical action if the Chinese and Russian vaccines are not allowed here.”
