Malema rallies behind Uganda’s presidential candidate, Bobi Wine

Published on

Julius Malema, during his press conference, pledged his support for Uganda’s presidential candidate, Bobi Wine, as the world was prohibited from getting updates on the country’s elections.

The Commander-in-Chief (CIC) of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, during his press conference on Thursday, 14 January 2021, pledged his support for Uganda’s presidential candidate, Bobi Wine. Wine is currently running against sitting Ugandan President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Museveni allegedly harassed Wine, his family, and his team before the elections, reportedly to discourage him from running.

Malema, in pledging his support and speaking about the alleged ill-treatment of Wine, stated, “Well, Bobi Wine is our brother. He is young, he is energetic and he’s got vision for Uganda. We have no relationship with his party, but we have a relationship with young African blood. Where we see Africans – young Africans – rise into positions of power, we support that.”

Currently, it is speculated that Wine is the frontrunner, as the votes are being counted. Should Wine emerge victorious, it will be of interest to see the relations he forms with South African political leaders that have been supporting him.
