Julius Malema took to Twitter to predict that President Cyril Ramaphosa would announce the country’s move back to Alert Level 1 restrictions, leading to suggestions of a coalition.
Commander-In-Chief (CIC) of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema took to Twitter on Sunday, 28 February 2021, to predict the announcement of a return to Level 1 restrictions and regulations. His tweet came ahead of the official announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Ramaphosa made the announcement later in the evening, which subsequently drew attention to the tweet by Malema.
Thereafter, there were suggestions of a coalition between the two parties. The matter of coalitions has been topical in light of the imminent local elections, which are to take place amid recovery from the pandemic. Moreover, with political parties already suggesting that they have not had enough time to canvass for votes, coalitions are believed to be a favourable way to secure more votes in the coming elections.
Moreover, with the confirmation of the move to Level 1, the EFF has begun to prepare for the celebrations for its CIC’s fortieth birthday. It is speculated that the celebrations will also form part of the election campaign by the EFF.
