Malema accused of playing the race card after scathing press conference

Published on

Commander In Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, has been criticised for supposedly playing the race card in defence of his involvement in the VBS saga.

During the press conference held on Thursday, 25 June 2020, Julius Malema endured hard-hitting questions from journalist, Aldrin Sampear. Initially, Malema was able to get through the questioning from journalists such as Samkelo Maseko unscathed. However, many believe that when questioned by Sampear, his confidence weaned off because of the fact-based and well-researched questions.

Following the press conference, with much debate over Malema’s involvement in the VBS scandal, many believe that his pinned tweet was an attempt to position himself as the victim. Malema posted a video, which is assumed to be of him, being asked to show his identification and official documents.

The caption to the distorted video painted him as a victim always being suspected of wrongdoing based on the colour of his skin, with many questioning the validity thereof.
