Making an extra income from a side hustle

Sometimes life requires one to establish a second stream of income to deal with several things; I’ve found means to making an extra income without much hustle.

Like most people, I enjoy making money on the side, without depending on my main source of income, which is my salary. Because I’m not much of a people’s person, I’ve found ways to make money with limited interaction with people. I know that ladies generally like changing hairstyles, and what better way than to sell wigs at an affordable price. I usually buy my hair from global online store, AliExpress. Sometimes I buy them as ready-made wigs or as bundles, which I turn into wigs myself.

AliExpress has flash sales almost daily, with a 16-inch curly weave selling for as little as R900. Of course, this is not virgin hair that can last you years, but with the right care, the hair can last for as long as two years. Because shipping is free, I usually sell the hair at a R200 mark-up, with an additional R150 for labour, should a client ask for their bundles to be turned into a wig.

Apart from that, I also offer washing and treatment sessions for the hair, which range from R50 to R100. It’s a great way of making an extra income from skills you already have. If you’re not into hair, AliExpress sells anything you can think of, from clothes to shoes to gadgets. The trick is finding a market for the items you want to sell and not be too greedy in your mark-up, as people might not buy your stock.
