Maimane suggests ways to improve vaccine rollout

Published on

Mmusi Maimane is one of the latest political figures that have weighed in on the vaccine rollout in the country, as he believes that the government has failed in the implementation thereof.

Chief Activist of One South Africa Movement (OSA), Mmusi Maimane took to Twitter on Tuesday, 11 May 2021, to join in the lambast of the state for its dismal implementation of the vaccination programme. The Sisonke Vaccination Programme has been adopted by South Africa. Despite the state having created an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the vaccination rollout programme, it appears to have failed in its mandate.

Maimane highlighted how South Africa is reportedly the country with the highest number of COVID-19 cases on the continent, yet it does not even make the top 10 countries in Africa with an efficient vaccination plan. Federal Leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), John Steenhuisen suggested that the country is ranked thirty-third.

Maimane stated, “The government must also limit travel from India at this particular moment. One of the identified accelerators of COVID-19 spread in places like the USA in 2020 was the delay in restricting travel from China. We must learn from history and from past mistakes.”
