Maimane suggests DBE manipulated matric pass rate
Mmusi Maimane has suggested that the DBE manipulated the matric pass rate, highlighting that the country’s pass mark is lower than it should be.
Chief Activist of One South Africa Movement (OSA), Mmusi Maimane took to Twitter on Monday, 22 February 2021, to reflect on the 76.2% pass rate for the matric class of 2020. The final matric results were presented by Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga earlier on the day.
Despite there being a drop in the overall pass rate, Motshekga did state that the pass rate was better than anticipated. The class of 2020 had to write their examinations amid a pandemic, following a year of uncertainty and ever-changing schooling schedules because of COVID-19.
However, Maimane was unimpressed and suggested that the pass rate was manipulated. He stated, “I want to emphasize this. A pass mark is 50%. When you look at the data accurately, our pass rate is not 76.2%. The pass rate across the gateway/critical subjects is closer to 29%. That information is in the diagnostic report. This number 76.2% is a foogasi (fake).”

We need talented and passionate administrators in our education system.
We cannot rely on the Mabena United Football Club they are taking us to the bottom of the log. #AngieMustGo #BladeMustFall #MatricResults2020 pic.twitter.com/RvNFJ1lsVO
